Tattoos, Nose spikes, navel studs, eyebrow rings, and lip chains are out. Detached arms are in. But are those limbs going for good? We talk to Eddie Entarg about his extremity elimination.
Since the Roman Empire people have been cutting off their arms and going for the armless aesthetic charm. And now the dangling sleeve look has come back and it’s taking the fashion world by storm.
"I used to get paid out a lot. But a lot more people now are realising [arm removal] is not just a domain of old time war veterans any more," says Eddie, 19, who had his left arm removed three years ago.
Eddie’s biggest pet hate? "Being asked is it real. That one question gets asked more than any other. Yes, it’s really been removed. Yes, it’s gone. Yes, for good."
Has it improved your sex life? "(laughs) My girlfriend thinks it’s cute but the enjoyment factor hasn’t really changed."
How about the other one? "I’ve known people to do it, but I don’t think having both my arms off would really be me. I’m happy with my appearance as I am."
Do you think you’ll ever want your arm replaced? "Learning to do things with just one arm has been a real challenge and at times I’ve felt like giving up and getting an artificial limb. But now being one armed is just who I am. I’ve always been a little different and I enjoy not being the same as everyone else."
Do you think missing arms will ever go out of fashion? "Maybe when I’m 70 I’ll look back and wonder why I did it. But I’m here for the now. And I’m enjoying every second of it."
